Presentations, always fun.

Presentations this week lead to a broad view of interactive media, varying from components of one or many devices to the highly complicated devices themselves. Really, it shows just how broad of a subject interactive media is, and it's one that grows almost daily. New technology seems to pave the way for making NEWER technology, making one wonder if it's ever going to be possible to hit a ceiling with our inventions and developments.

On that note it's strange that people are hung up on making so many of the same thing with slight differences... different color mice, rhythm games with different names, different but very similar smart phones. It seems that a company's time could be better spent making an even better product rather than someone else's product in red with a different logo.

  1. Its because we live in a capitalism, where everyone wants to make the most popular stuff and bank on it...

And the ceiling will be when technology takes care of itself... simular to computer getting updates by themselves!!

We are getting lazier and lazier... soon we will do nothing, maybe including thinking!

  2. i never really thought about your last point during the presentations but you're totally right. guitar hero is the same damn game it was when it came out, there's more songs and characters and stuff, but it's all the same boring crap. and yes, like fred said i think it does go back to capitalism.

like after the original woodstock, almost every performer, no matter how unknown, was signed and fell into the limelight. the same thing happened with the seattle scene in the 90s: nirvana broke and subsequently every rock band that lived in washington and wore flannel scored a record deal while bands across the globe changed their sound and look accordingly.

they find something that works and bank on it, then when consumers grow tired of it and the product is in decline, THEN the companies will work to improve on it. at least that's the way it seems sometimes, something to ponder i guess.

  3. You're so right when you commented that all a lot of companies do is to offer you the same product, basically, in a new color. How gullible do they think we are?...Very! When the switch to digital came about, I didn't rush out and buy a digital TV, I got the free boxes and waited for the TV prices to come down (after the switch to HD date). I got a 26-inch for $199.00. I wait for the sales. I look for bargains.

  4. I always wonder the same thing... Will we ever run out of new technologies? I dont know if we ever will. I think thats part of the reason all they do is keep making the same things with slight differences. Thats how they make sure everyone uses it. The more they make a product the more likely more people will use it making it normal instead of something only the elitehave or use. Once it becomes popular, then they introduce something new they people will strive to reach, an the cycle continues...
